Meet Dr. Monagle

Dr. Monagle began his medical pursuits at the age of 18 in his freshman year at the University of California, San Diego as a volunteer in the Emergency Room and Trauma Center at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, California. After one year of volunteering, he was certified as an E.M.T. and became the youngest employee of the Scripps Emergency Department and Trauma Team, working with top trauma surgeons in the North San Diego County area for the remainder of his undergraduate years. It was during this time that he became passionate about nutrition and the holistic principles of health and medicine. Upon graduating with a dual major in biochemistry and cellular biology, he worked for a year as a volunteer with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps (JVC) in Bend, Oregon, as an assistant supervisor for social services at the Society of St. Vincent DePaul, serving the poor and homeless population of Central Oregon.

In 1998, Dr. Monagle began his doctoral medical education at the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon, which is the oldest Naturopathic Medical School in America. During his 4 years of medical studies, Dr. Monagle found time between clinic rotations and classes to give back to the community. He volunteered with the young, old, impoverished, and homeless. He spent five years as a grief counselor to children at the Dougy Center, which is a place for grieving children who have lost one or both parents to sudden death, tragedy or illness. He volunteered at Hopewell House providing hospice care to the elderly, and he worked as a medical student with the poor and impoverished at community outreach clinics for recovering addicts, and homeless youth in the city of Portland.

After graduating from medical school in the top ten percent of his class, Dr. Monagle began a three-year family practice residency followed by a two-year associate fellowship in Intravenous Therapy and Pain Management. Dr. Monagle also worked at Nike headquarters, in Beaverton, Oregon as an independent sports medicine doctor and lecturer offering classes and healthcare to Nike employees and sponsored athletes. He is passionate about music and plays the guitar and the piano. He enjoys cycling, skiing, weight training, surfing, and scuba diving.
